New ways of working; New challenges for the tax function
-
As employers explore new ways of working, including permanent remote work, talent hubs, or project-based deployments, cross border work is going through another evolution and becoming more entrenched. Demographics, work expectations and business changes are all putting pressure on the labour market across the African continent, forcing employers to reconsider how they attract and retain talent. As employers respond to these pressures and address expectations of workplace flexibility, tax functions have a role to play in their organization’s talent agenda.
This session will explore how tax functions need to find solutions that accommodate these new ways of operating while monitoring and managing the associated tax risks. The discussion will also look at how to manage the regulatory requirements related to the people they employ – addressing the right to work in a particular country, the individual income tax and social security requirements to be fulfilled for the employee, or the on-the-ground support required to make the arrangement work.
